Directions
Big Hole National Battlefield is located ten miles west of Wisdom, Montana on state highway 43. From I-15 at Dillon, Montana take highway 278 northwest to Wisdom, then highway 43, ten miles west. From I-15 at Divide, take route 43 west through Wisdom to Battlefield. From Missoula, Montana, take state route 93 south through the Bitterroot Valley to Lost Trail Pass. Turn east on highway 43 and drive 17 miles to the battlefield.

Daily Summer: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Daily Winter: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Closed: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day.

The Battlefield collects fees from May 27, 2006 - September 24, 2006.

Commercial Tours Fees Commercial tours are charged the individual rate of $3.00 with senior bus tour groups discounted to $2.00 per individual. Driver and host whom are exempted the entrance fee. 

EDUCATION AND GROUP RESERVATIONS
Group Reservations are highly recommended and reduce fee structures may apply. To assure staff availability and to see if you qualify for a reduce fee contact the Battlefield from 9-5 daily at 406 689-3155. Educational groups are waived of the entrance fee. Reservations need to be made prior to your visit by calling the Battlefield 9 - 5 daily at 406 689-3155 to assure staff is available and a proper fee waiver form can be completed.

Things To Do
Tipi Pitch at 11:00 am and 5:00 PM. Help put up the park’s tipi and learn about the Nez Perce and their culture. The program is thirty minutes in length and held on the visitor center lawn.

Guided Battlefield Walk at 1:30 PM. Experience the Big Hole battlefield from the perspectives of the soldiers and Nez Perce. Walks are ninety minutes in length.

Battlefield Talks at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM. An introduction to the battle at the Big Hole. Talks are fifteen minutes in length held on the visitor center observation deck.

The park film, Weet'uciklitukt: There's No Turning Back, Battle at Big Hole provides an introduction to the Nez Perce War of 1877 and the tragedy that took place here. The film is shown throughout the day and is closed captioned.

Campfire Programs from July 1 to September 2, 2006, each Saturday at the U.S. Forest Service May Creek Campground, park staff will present an evening programs beginning at 8:00 PM.

Things To Know
The Battlefield is located 6,300 feet above sea level and visitors may need to drink more water, slower their pace when walking, and dress in layers for a variety of weather conditions.
